Tech Talk Roundtable 06-12 | Your Well of Inspiration

We’ve got a question for you.  Where do you go for inspiration?  When you need something to energize or refocus you, or perhaps you just need to turn the Shang-lows, back into Shang-highs, what resources do you tap?  Today we will share some of our top sources for inspiration and also some inspirational resources from our colleagues out in the twitter-verse.

Lessons Learned

Chris – They don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care (chiasmus from Jim Calhoun)

  • The value of marriage is not that adults produce children, but that children produce adults. – Peter de Vries
  • But many that are first shall be last and the last shall be first. – Matthew 7:6
  • Let us never negotiate out of fear, but let us never fear to negotiate. – President John Kennedy

Daniel –  @gcouros Innovator’s Mindset.  What’s best for this student’s learning?  Start with Empathy.

Dennis – We need to make JOY a non-negotiable.

Fun Fact

Works from 1923 entered the public domain on Jan 1, 2019.   For the first time in 20 years, all the works from an entire year enter the public domain, thanks to the Sonny Bono Copyright Act.

From the “Twitter-verse” and the “Book of Faces”

Ryan Maney (@rmaney17) – My Twitter PLN is a great energy boost! Blogs that encourage deep thinking and self-reflection by @gcouros @spencerideas. #RelaxedAttention by @kelleybros is a fantastic tool. Finally, introverted Ryan needs a long run to process the amazing Teaching & Learning I observe in house

Kimberly Wright (El Paso, TX) – I look to my other nerd friends. But, I also watch TED Talks…run, hike, bike and think about the application to my life and those around me.

Dave T (Michigan) – Soul Pancake

Terra-Lee Gratton, Rodney Crouse, Carrie Willis – Social Media, specifically Twitter and FB Groups.

Joe Oliphant (Pittsburgh) – Listens YouTube on his 45 minute drive to work.

Chad Lehman, Dacia Jones – Friends & Family (Dacia added School kids)

Mark Case (North Carolina) – Discovery Educator Family (Professional Educator Network)

Susan Bowdoin (Albuquerque, New Mexico) – Newly Published Picture books.

Davey Neill (@daveyneill) Nothing refocuses me more than PD experiences that allow for engagement with like-minded educators where I can look to the greenness of other pastures and come to appreciate my own. I love my tribe(s).
