Overview
The most frustrating part of any technology project in my classroom was trying to find the images. I wanted my students to be able to bring their work to life, but having them search for photos on google lead to issues with copyright, unsavory photos popping up and constant problems with the size or orientation of the photo. When our school purchased a subscription to Image Quest, that solved all these problems. Image quest has over 3 million rights-cleared images from collections like The Bridgeman Art Gallery, Dorling Kindersley Images, Getty Images, the National Portrait Gallery of London, and the National Geographic Society. Teachers can allow students to search for images without fear and students can easily grab the citation directly from the information attached to the images. The photos are good quality and teachers can even create galleries of images that they want students to use for a particular project. Image quest is designed to meet the needs of teachers and students and is an invaluable resource in the classroom.
Concerns
In terms of the product itself, I don’t really have any concerns beyond the commitment curve and the price.
Sample Uses
Anytime you want students to use images in a project this should be your go-to resource. A new feature I just learned about that is my new favorite is the galleries. I had no idea that you could create a gallery for a specific topic to gather images and then choose your favorite later. I also love how easy it is to grab the citation for the images. This makes it much easier for me to demonstrate good digital citizenship to my students in my own presentations. There are other great features in the program as well that you can quickly learn about from their intro video.
Do I plan to use it?
Yup!
Commitment and Learning Curve
Medium. You can easily use it just to search for images, but if you take the time to learn about the different tools available this tool will go from helpful to indispensable.
