Audio Review # 46 | Green Screen App makes creating green screen videos easier than ever.

Sometimes we get really stuck with having students do presentations in the same way over and over.  But using the green screen allows you to have students actually “step into” their presentation and present like they are really there.  This is a simple, but powerful app that can allow you to do that.  All you have to do to use it is to set up a backdrop (make sure it is a single vibrant color), film the student, choose the image you want to replace the backdrop with and whala!  You have an awesome video. If it’s not quite the way you want yet, you can even do some simple editing within the app.   It’s quick and easy and creates a great product.

You need to let the students run the show with this one.  If you are hoping for a beautiful product and you need to do all the filming yourself it will take FOREVER to get through a class of kids.  But if you set this up as a station in your class and the students can do it themselves it’s a much better use of class time.  A second, and probably bigger issue is, you also have to do all your filming in the app.  As far as I know you can’t import movies in that you filmed with another camera.

Sample Uses

I’ve used this in a weather unit and a biographies unit to have the students make a presentation about a specific person or weather condition.  Anytime you want the students to “step into” the situation this a great tool.  The best thing about it is that the students from about grade 3 and up could do the filming and editing themselves.

Do I plan to use it?

Yes!  Already have and will again.  It’s simple and really engages the students

Commitment and Learning Curve

MEDIUM.  This is super easy to use and your kids will figure it out with almost no teacher help.

Best for ES MS or HS?

Any grade.  It’s more dependant on the project than the age range.

The app on iTunes costs $2.99
